Welcome to our FAQ section. Here we try to answer the most obvious questions that you may have about ink cartridge refills, and also to shed some light on the myths (that seem to be passed around tight circles of friends) about how dreadful refills are and how much damage they can cause (usually by someone who doesn´t actually know but speaks with authority)
Can the refills or compatible cartridges damage my printer ??
Absolutely not! With a refill cartridge, you are getting the same cartridge back, just filled up...that´s all. The compatible cartridges are brand new and specifically designed to fit your printer. They can do no harm whatsoever.
What about leaking? I once knew a dog who used refills and he was covered in ink for weeks...now we call him Patch...will that happen to me too ??
Not if you bought them here. Leakage in ink cartridges is mainly due to over-filling or not being filled appropiately. We do not supply leaky cartridges...never have, never will.
I once bought recycled cartridges and they ran out really quickly..will these ??
No. The Inkstation refills cartridges to above-specification using precision micro-pumps. The specification of every cartridge has been pre-programed into the Inkstation and the amount to be injected is calculated using hi-tec electronic scales.
If I take the cartridges out of my printer, they need to be replaced very quickly or the ink will dry inside the printer. Is this true?
Not for refills, but compatible cartridges should be installed within 48hrs of removing the old ones. See our refill cartridges and compatible cartridges section to find out which type you have.
Will the refill or compatible cartridges give me the same quality that I´m used to ??
Absolutely! And if for whatever reason they stop performing correctly, you must return them to us so that we can put them right or replace them for you free of charge.
So they are totally guaranteed ??
YES! We guarantee 100% that the quality of your prints will match the quality from the original cartridges. In the event of your cartridges breaking down, not performing correctly, or even if you are not personally happy with the quality, we will exchange them or refund you with no problem at all.
How many times can a cartridge be refilled ??
On average about 5 times, but this all depends on the type of cartridge and how it has been used. If a cartridge is over-used or run too dry it will burnout and become unusable. Eventually all cartridges will wear out, at which point the are taken out of circulation. The Inkstation runs a series of tests to make sure each cartridge is in perfect working order, and will not be given back to you if it does not pass our strict quality control. To give your cartridges the best chance at another life see our cartridge care section.
My cartridge is not working properly and I have poor quality prints...what do I do?
See our Help Desk section. If this doesn´t do the trick you can always contact us
I just had my cartridge refilled (not compatibles) and when I installed it is says that it is empty...why ??
This is completely normal and at the moment completely unavoidable. The printer has its own memory and records the serial numbers of the cartridges installed. When you take them out, refill them and then re-install them, the printer knows that they are the same empty cartridges that you had in there before. The only reason for it doing this is because the manufacturer does not want you to buy cartridges from anywhere else but them. In most cases the printer will function as normal but will refuse to give you an estimate on how much ink is left.
