Problems with epson cartridges can vary, but fortunately they are infrequent and easy to solve. We are proud to boast a very low return rate thanks to our sourcing of good quality compatible cartridges, however there are times when a cartridge is simply defective and an exchange is offered immediately.
Solutions to some of the most common problems are found here, so hopefully we can get you printing again. For all others problems not listed here we suggest you contact us.
Problem:No ink on paper / Missing colours
Solution:Make sure that you have removed the yellow label marked "PULL" that is attached to cartridge (see image below). This is the first thing to check as no ink will come out of the cartridge untill it has been removed. If they have already been removed, continue onto Print Head Cleaning
Problem:Poor quality prints / Banding
Solution:Print Head Cleaning - this should be performed if you have missing colours or horizontal lines (banding) across your prints. Poor quality prints on Epson machines is usually because of dust being taken into the machine and sticking to the Print Head carriage, or simply by not being used for a period of time which causes them to become dry.
The following instructions are suitable for every Epson printer and should solve most quality problems.
Step 1 - Click on the "Start" button, located at the bottom left of your screen, followed by "Printers and Faxes". see below
Step 2 - Hover your mouse pointer over your Epson printer, right click once to access the small drop-down menu, then select "Printing Preferences". see below
Step 3 - Now you are into the printers settings area, where you can perform maintenance and change various settings for paper size, type etc, as well as print quality settings. Every printer has its own software and may look slightly different to the image below, but they all function in pretty much the same way.
Notice the different tabs along the top of the window? This gives you access to different areas of the printers settings, and Maintenance is usually found at the end. see below
Select the Head Cleaning option and follow the on-screen instructions. Once the utility has finished you will be prompted to print a test page (Nozzle Check). This test page will print out a block of each colour and a grid. There should be no lines or gaps in this print. If the print quality is still poor then repeat the cleaning process.
Sometimes 3 or 4 cleans is required to get it printing as normal, but beware that each time a clean is performed the printer is using ink and the ink levels will drop.
Problem:Cartridge(s) not recognised / Faulty
Solution:This problem can be for a number of reasons and is easily determined by following these steps.
Step 1: The first and easiest thing to do is to remove all of the cartridges and reinstall them, making sure they are all seated and clicked in correctly. Most of the time this problem is caused by bad contacts between the cartridge and your printer.
Allow the printer to settle down after reinstalling the cartridges, then un-plug the machine from the electric socket and leave for 2 minutes. If the problem persists once the printer is plugged in again, and if you are happy that all cartridges are installed correctly, continue to step 2
Step 2: Now we need to identify exactly which cartridge is causing the problem. The simplest way of doing this is by looking at the estimated ink level window on your computer. This will usually show which cartridge has failed by marking it with a big X.
In the event that your printer does not show you this information on-screen, press the flashing orange button on the top of the printer once. The carriage will then move to somewhere near the middle and stop. Once it has come to a complete stop, look closely and you will find that where it has stopped there is a small triangular arrow on the body of the printer that sticks out slightly and is pointing to the bad cartridge. see below
Make a note of the cartridge and press the flashing orange button again. If there are any more bad cartridges the carriage will stop again immediately, pointing at each one before it returns to the normal position. In most cases only 1 cartridge will be faulty.
Remove the faulty cartridge by pressing the orange flashing button and wait for the carriage to reach the correct position, then return it to us as soon as possible so that we can exchange it free of charge.
