From time to time things start to go wrong, and ink cartrige refills are no exception. Below are a few solutions to common problems that we get asked about. If you experience any problems that are not solved here, please bring your printer to us immediately.
Problem:Poor quality prints or no ink on the paper
Solution: Print Head Cleaning - this should be performed if you have missing colours or horizontal lines (banding) across your prints. Poor quality prints is usually because of dust being taken into the machine and sticking to the Print Head, or simply by not being used for a period of time which causes them to become dry.
The first thing is to find the HP Solution Center software (or "Toolbox" on older machines). So where do you find the HP Solution Center? Sometimes not as easy as you would think. The first place to look is in your "All Programs" list for a folder called "HP". See image below.
If it is not in the "All Programs" list, then look amongst the icons on the bottom right of your screen, near the clock. See image below. Leave your mouse pointer over each icon and it will tell you what they are. Once you have found the one for your printer try right clicking on it once and select "HP Solution Center" ("Caja de herramientas" or "Centro de Soluciones HP" in Spanish).
Once the HP Solution Center is open, if you can see an icon that says "Toolbox" then hit it and skip to the next step. If not, then select the "Configuration" button. The next image shows where I had to go to find it. Each printer has different software and the Toolbox will often be located in different places so you may have to explore to find it.
Now we have finally found the elusive "Toolbox", or "Cuadro de herramientas de impresora" as it is called in the image below.
Congratulations! Sometimes hard to find but very useful to know, the Toolbox can diagnose print problems and clean the cartridges. From here you can now clean the print heads, print a test page (which you should do before cleaning to see where the problem lies), as well as align the cartridges to ensure optimal prints and other diagnostic tools.
Problem:Cartridge Error / Not Recognised
Solution: The first thing to do when this problem occurs is to make a note of exactly which cartridge is the offender. Hardly ever will there be problems with both cartridges at the same time. You can find this information easily by using the "Toolbox" software.
Remove the offending cartridge, close the clip (if applicable) and the lid of the printer. Wait until all has gone quiet and then turn off the printer and unplug from the electric socket. Wait 2 minutes and then plug the printer back in and re-install the cartridge.
If this does not solve the problem please return it to us as soon as possible and we will exchange it free of charge.
Unfortunately this is a problem that occurs in brand new cartridges as well as recycled cartridges, and is all down to the sensitive electric systems on each one. There are a multitude of reasons, from static to slight electric surges, and they cannot be fixed once this has occurred.
